Project HighAmp

In the next few years, distribution network operators will face the challenge of renewing or replacing old gas pressure and oil cables. In cooperation with Rheinische NETZGesellschaft (RNG), a consortium consisting of Vision Electric Super Conductors GmbH (VESC), the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and Cologne University of Applied Sciences is developing a three-phase superconducting high and medium voltage cable as a suitable alternative. The aim is to continue using existing pipe systems of old gas pressure and oil cables and at the same time to increase the transmission capacity many times over.
